Position Summary
Due to our expansion, we are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our North American Casualty division.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate complex submissions, including applications, policy documents, inspection reports, loss histories, and financial statements, while conducting thorough research to assess the risk associated with each account.
- Determine appropriate risk premiums by analyzing the inherent risks of the sector, reinsurance requirements, and underwriting costs to ensure profitability.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the North American Casualty portfolio to meet business objectives while operating within assigned authority limits.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with brokers and clients, identify new business opportunities, and manage Coverholder arrangements that align with our risk appetite.
- Assist in the business planning and forecasting processes; monitor financial exposure within defined limits; ensure premium income remains within established thresholds.
- Maintain awareness of all reported claims while providing input on claims settlements.
- Perform tasks in accordance with established protocols, exercising discretion as necessary.
- Strategically plan for sales and business development, utilizing various techniques and tools to support profitable growth over time.
- Negotiate effectively with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Analyze and resolve complex problems to make informed business decisions.
- Foster excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal reputation within Rokstone and the broader market.
- Make informed underwriting decisions that align with business strategies and deliver results.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in North American Casualty.
- Strong understanding of North American Casualty underwriting principles and practices.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the insurance sector.
- Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications or similar credentials are advantageous.
