Position Summary
We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our North American Casualty division, a role newly established due to our growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate complex submissions, including applications, policy documents, inspection reports, loss histories, and financial statements, while conducting thorough research to assess the risk associated with each account.
- Determine appropriate risk premiums by analyzing the inherent risks of the respective sector, reinsurance arrangements, and underwriting costs to ensure profitability.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the North American Casualty portfolio to meet business objectives while operating within defined authority limits.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients, identify new business opportunities, and manage Coverholder arrangements that align with our risk appetite.
- Assist in business planning and forecasting; monitor financial exposure within established limits; ensure premium income remains within set parameters.
- Stay informed about all claims reported and provide input on claim settlements.
- Perform tasks in accordance with established procedures while exercising discretion as needed.
- Plan and execute sales and business development strategies, utilizing various techniques and tools to support profitable growth over a specified timeframe.
- Negotiate effectively with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Analyze complex problems to make informed business decisions.
- Foster strong interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal reputation within Rokstone and the wider market.
- Make underwriting decisions that align with business strategies and deliver results.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in North American Casualty.
- In-depth knowledge of North American Casualty underwriting principles and practices.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the insurance sector.
- Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications or similar credentials are advantageous.
