Position Summary

Due to expansion, we are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our North American Casualty division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate complex submissions, including applications, policy documents, inspection reports, loss history, and financial statements, while conducting thorough research to assess the risk associated with each account.
  • Determine appropriate risk premiums by analyzing risk costs specific to the sector, reinsurance arrangements, and general administrative expenses to ensure profitability.
  • Influence the direction of the North American Casualty portfolio to meet business objectives while operating within defined authority limits.
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with brokers and clients, identifying new business opportunities and managing Coverholder arrangements within appetite.
  • Assist in the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure within set limits; ensure premium income remains within established thresholds.
  • Stay informed about all claims reported while providing input on claim settlements.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with established procedures, exercising discretion as necessary.
  • Strategically plan for sales and business development, utilizing various techniques and tools to support profitable growth over time.
  • Conduct negotiations with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Analyze complex problems, gather relevant information, and make informed business decisions.
  • Build strong interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal reputation within Rokstone and the broader market.
  • Make underwriting decisions that align with business strategies and drive results.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in North American Casualty.
  • In-depth knowledge of North American Casualty underwriting principles and practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the insurance sector.
  • Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications or similar credentials are advantageous.
