Warton, United Kingdom BAE Systems Full time
Job Overview

Position: Lead Avionics Systems Engineer

Location: Warton. We provide various hybrid and flexible working options – please consult your recruiter regarding the possibilities for this specific position.

Compensation: £47,683 – £52,426 based on experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate new and evolving customer specifications and deliver a Safety and Avionic scope along with a feasibility study for all primary sub-systems teams.
  • Facilitate a review of the supplied specifications, whether a Customer Statement of Requirements (SOR) or an EF System Requirements Document (SRD), to pinpoint the initial customer expectations. The customer specifications, along with an evaluation of the ConEmp scenarios, are analyzed to define the ''Problem Space''. The results are documented in the Avionic System Scope and Feasibility Analysis Report (ASFAR).
  • Lead preliminary safety evaluations of the design modifications, emphasizing specific areas of concern, potential hazards, and the necessity for Weapon System Preliminary Hazard Analysis (WS PHA). The findings are also recorded in the ASFAR.
  • Oversee initial technical evaluations of the Customer Business Cases (BC) to outline and document the overall scope, implications of the changes, and potential solutions. The solutions will be scrutinized to determine the single selected solution known as the 'Avionic Design recommendation'. A final feasibility assessment is then conducted on the Avionic Design recommendation.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree in a STEM discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • It is essential that candidates possess a robust Systems Engineering background throughout the entire system development lifecycle, ideally from the Aerospace or Defence sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements capture and management.
  • Comprehension of the connections between engineering requirements and their effects on the platform and equipment is crucial for effective implementation planning.
  • Exceptional communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal. The individual will cultivate and maintain effective and enduring relationships with the customer, stakeholders, and AJT teams.
  • Proven capability to produce formal project documentation.

Benefits:

We offer a range of benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave, and a Company-contributed Share Incentive Plan. Additional perks such as flexible working arrangements, an employee assistance program, Cycle2work, and employee discounts are also available – you may qualify for an annual incentive.

The Eurofighter Typhoon Avionics Joint Team:

The Eurofighter Typhoon Avionics Joint Team (AJT) is accountable for the overall system-level functional Avionic design and partitioning across the main sub-systems and numerous integrated components. They also oversee the comprehensive avionics safety analysis, qualification, and certification of the integrated system, ensuring delivery to customers.

The Front-End Team provides technical support to EF and consolidates customer requirements and system constraints, offering a coherent Design Concept and a unified perspective across the Avionic Design teams.
