Job Overview

Position: Lead Avionic Systems Engineer – Test Specifications & Software Issue Management

Compensation: £45,326 – £49,834 (Based on skills and experience)

Level: E

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing Avionics qualification strategies and test requirement documentation, which will help define the necessary testing (both rig and flight) to certify new Avionic functionalities.
  • Evaluate test data to assess compliance with qualification plans and identify any non-compliance issues that may necessitate user advisories or platform limitations.
  • Collaborate with the Safety team to establish the minimum testing requirements associated with Safety Critical Function Chains (SCFC) essential for flight safety.
  • Oversee, allocate, and address software issues and resolutions; facilitate related management discussions across all Eurofighter entities and pertinent customer representatives.
  • Provide urgent customer support through an In Service Query response service for critical issues.
  • This pivotal role supports the qualification of Typhoon Avionics design modifications, requiring close collaboration with the Avionic Safety and Clearance teams to introduce new capabilities aligned with program demands. As a senior engineer, you will work with greater independence and reduced oversight, assisting the Group Leader in fulfilling team responsibilities and mentoring junior team members.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience with Mission Systems, preferably in aerospace or military environments.
  • Understanding of system (or sub-system) level functional testing processes.
  • Familiarity with equipment interface specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks effectively.
  • Adherence to established standards and procedures, with an understanding of configuration control importance.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the Typhoon platform.
  • Experience in trial data analysis and management.
  • Familiarity with design tools/methodologies (e.g., Statemate, Artisan, Rhapsody, UML & DOORS).
  • Experience in requirements management.
  • Knowledge of system qualification and certification processes.
  • Experience with JIRA project management software.

About the AJT Systems Engineering Team:

Joining the Typhoon Avionics Joint Team (AJT) at BAE Systems offers a unique and essential role in the design and qualification of Avionic system modifications. The AJT oversees the entire Avionic System, managing seven critical sub-systems. This position provides the opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge of Typhoon Avionics throughout its engineering lifecycle and collaborate with a diverse range of technical stakeholders. The AJT coordinates Avionic system-level efforts across all sub-systems and contributes to major upgrade programs, enhancing significant platform capabilities for Typhoon's Core Nation and Export customers.
