Job Overview
The University of Glasgow is looking to appoint a Laboratory Operations Supervisor to oversee the daily functions of our washroom facilities.

The primary aim of this role is to enhance the operational framework of our laboratory complex, ensuring the effective management of sterilisation and wash-up services for various research laboratories. Key Responsibilities 1.

To lead the washroom team in delivering sterilisation, biological waste management, and cleaning services, reporting directly to the Washroom Manager.2.

Responsible for the seamless operation of the washroom, prioritising tasks and managing the work schedule effectively.3.

Accountable for the strategic planning and management of washroom activities, ensuring adherence to established protocols for a high-quality and safe service.4.

Accept and process glassware, plasticware, and other laboratory items for cleaning and sterilisation as needed.5. Organise the collection and documentation of lab coats for laundering.6. Repair damaged glassware using appropriate techniques.7. Manage the sterilisation of pipettes and waste materials in compliance with safety standards.8. Operate washing machines, autoclaves, and sterilising ovens efficiently.9. Ensure the safe disposal of waste in accordance with the university's waste management policies.10. Guarantee the safe handling and disposal of broken glassware.11. Maintain rigorous cleanliness standards for glassware and plasticware, conducting thorough quality control checks.12. Monitor stock levels daily, placing orders through the university's supply chain as necessary.13. Conduct general cleaning and maintenance within the washroom areas.14. Keep accurate records for billing purposes.15. Manage monthly accounts and the recharging of material costs.16. Schedule and oversee regular maintenance for all electrical equipment in the washroom and preparation areas.17. Prepare specialised media and food recipes as required.18. Provide training and support to washroom staff to uphold safe operational standards and quality service delivery.19. Responsible for drafting and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments related to washroom operations.

Required Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Essential Knowledge/Qualifications A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification framework level 5 or 6 (National 5 or 6, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3) or equivalent, along with relevant experience in a similar position OR the ability to demonstrate the necessary competencies for this role through acquired knowledge and skills.

A2 Comprehensive understanding of glass washing and autoclaving processes.

A3 In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, including the risks associated with cleaning and disinfecting chemicals, as well as safe manual handling practices.

Essential Experience E1 Proven ability to meet the competencies required for this role through relevant experience in a similar environment.

E2 Experience in team supervision.
E3 Background in laboratory housekeeping tasks.
E4 Familiarity with preparing and handling cleaning and disinfectant chemicals.
E5 Regular use of MS Office 365 applications. Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 4, with a competitive annual salary. This position is part-time and open-ended.
