Job Purpose
The University of Glasgow is looking to appoint a Laboratory Supervisor for its facilities.

The role is designed to enhance the operational framework of the complex, overseeing the daily management of sterilization and cleaning services for research laboratories within the institution. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1.

To lead the cleaning team, ensuring a sterilization, biological waste disposal, and cleaning service, reporting daily to the Washroom Supervisor.2.

Responsible for the daily operations of the cleaning area, prioritizing and organizing the work schedule.3.

Accountable for managing and planning activities in the cleaning area, ensuring adherence to procedures for delivering a consistent quality and safe service.4.

Accept glassware, plasticware, and other laboratory materials for handwashing, machine washing, and sterilizing as necessary.5. Organize the collection and documentation of lab coats for laundering.6. Repair damaged glassware using appropriate techniques.7. Accept pipettes and waste in designated bags for sterilization.8. Operate washing machines, autoclaves, and sterilizing ovens.9. Ensure proper disposal of waste according to established policies.10. Safely dispose of broken glassware.11. Maintain meticulous cleanliness of glassware and plasticware, ensuring effective quality control.12. Manage stock levels daily, ordering supplies as needed.13. Conduct general housekeeping within the cleaning areas.14. Keep records of items for recharging purposes.15. Oversee monthly account management and cost recharging.16. Schedule regular maintenance for all equipment in the cleaning and preparation areas.17. Prepare specialized media and recipes as required.18. Provide training and support to cleaning staff to uphold safe operational standards and quality service.19. Responsible for drafting and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential A1 Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in a similar role.

A2 Comprehensive understanding of glass washing and sterilization procedures.

A3 Knowledge of Health and Safety protocols, including the risks associated with cleaning and disinfecting chemicals and safe manual handling techniques.

Skills Essential C1 Effective communication skills with colleagues and contractors.
C2 A flexible and enthusiastic work approach.
C3 Ability to work independently while supervising a team.
C4 Self-motivated with efficient time management skills.
C5 Strong organizational abilities.
C6 Initiative and good judgment in problem-solving.

C10 Willingness to engage in training for skill development.
C11 Proficient in MS Office 365 applications.

Experience Essential E1 Demonstrated competencies required for this role through relevant experience.

E2 Experience in team supervision.
E3 Familiarity with laboratory housekeeping tasks.
E4 Experience in preparing and handling cleaning chemicals.
E5 Regular use of MS Office 365 applications. Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 4, competitive and commensurate with experience. This position is part-time and open-ended.
