Position Overview
The role of the Research Technician is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the efficient management of laboratory functions, including maintaining inventory levels and procuring necessary supplies while adhering to budgetary constraints.
2. Oversee the maintenance of laboratory instruments, diagnosing issues and resolving everyday technical challenges.
3. Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) to uphold safety standards and operational efficiency within the laboratory space. This encompasses supporting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
4. Engage in laboratory maintenance tasks in CL2 and CL3 settings, contributing to routine operations essential for laboratory functionality.
5. Provide expert technical assistance in executing research methodologies, generating data for scholarly articles, reports, and presentations.
6. Work alongside the PI to recommend, implement, and assess enhancements to existing research protocols as necessary.
7. Collect, analyze, and interpret research data following established procedures, ensuring meticulous record-keeping in both electronic and traditional formats.
8. Organize daily activities to meet experimental objectives within agreed timelines.
9. Mentor junior personnel as appropriate, offering training and guidance in the use of laboratory equipment and techniques as directed by the supervisor or PI.
10. Collaborate with peers and engage in departmental meetings and research group initiatives.
11. Stay informed about advancements in research technologies and methodologies, continuously enhancing technical expertise.
12. Adhere to the Equality and Diversity policies of the University of Glasgow.
