The role of the Facilities Manager requires a high level of responsibility, trustworthiness, and a proactive approach.


We are seeking a seasoned and responsible individual to manage various aspects related to the school premises and its operations.

These responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to, tasks associated with cleanliness, upkeep, safety, and security.

Essential Qualities:

  • Proven knowledge and experience in multiple maintenance disciplines including plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, glazing, electrical work, mechanical systems, HVAC, roof repairs, plastering, playground upkeep, furniture restoration, and small engine maintenance.
  • Strong integrity and a demonstrated moral character with initiative.
  • Maintain a cooperative and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Exhibit ethical and professional conduct when interacting with students, parents, school staff, and external agencies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out general maintenance and repair tasks across various areas as directed by the Headteacher, Deputy Head, and Bursar, adhering to all relevant codes and regulations.
  • Undertake maintenance and repairs that do not necessitate a license, or execute them under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Ensure that the work environment is safe at all times.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and systems, promptly reporting any irregularities or hazards.
  • Maintain a detailed log of all maintenance activities and repairs conducted.
  • Suggest repairs or procedures that exceed the scope of responsibilities, detailing the work required and specifications for external contractors.
  • Always prioritize the health and safety of others, ensuring tools are not left unattended and maintaining an organized workspace.
  • Regularly communicate with staff responsible for Health and Safety assessments.
  • Immediately report any damage, vandalism, or theft of school property.
  • Oversee the routine cleaning of outdoor areas, including some gardening tasks such as leaf and litter removal.
  • Be knowledgeable about fire safety protocols, fire extinguishing equipment, and actions to take in the event of a fire.
  • Monitor for signs of dampness, damage, pests, or other infestations.
  • As needed, request visitors to identify themselves and ask unauthorized individuals to leave the premises.
  • Responsible for unlocking and securing the building as requested.
  • Comply with reasonable requests from the Headteacher, Deputy Head, or Bursar to ensure the smooth operation of the school.
