Role Overview

In the capacity of Head of Regional Property, reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, your main focus will be to steer the underwriting strategy and appetite for the designated line of business. You will collaborate with the CUO, other Line of Business Heads, and the broader DUAL Executive team to execute the Regional Commercial business plan.

Your responsibilities will encompass enhancing and expanding regional underwriting capabilities, leading the underwriting strategy, guiding regional case underwriting decisions, and fostering continuous improvement in underwriting practices.

You will establish and uphold underwriting standards and authorities, demonstrating strong leadership and advocating for solution-oriented underwriting methodologies.

In partnership with the CUO, you will cultivate enduring, technically proficient relationships with existing and prospective capacity providers, which are vital for supporting our underwriting strategy and achieving business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define line of business strategy, risk appetite, and pricing requirements.
  • Contribute to annual Business Planning initiatives.
  • Monitor portfolio performance against plans and project future outcomes.
  • Adjust strategy based on portfolio performance to align with business objectives.
  • Ensure a robust underwriting governance authority framework is established and maintained.
  • Adhere to capacity provider governance frameworks and meet audit standards.
  • Support regional underwriters in business acquisition, including case solutions and broker relationships.
  • Analyze claims patterns and adjust reserves to optimize portfolio performance.
  • Stay informed about emerging risks and take appropriate actions.
  • Implement comprehensive underwriting training and development programs.
  • Collaborate with regional underwriting, distribution, and portfolio management teams to achieve broader Regional Commercial business goals.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Extensive experience in relevant line of business underwriting, including senior authority roles.
  • Strong portfolio management expertise, with a focus on data analytics and performance metrics to drive business growth.
  • In-depth understanding of the commercial insurance mid-market and UK regulatory landscape.
  • Desirable degree or equivalent qualification, complemented by significant post-qualification experience.
  • ACII or FCII qualified (or equivalent).
  • Robust financial acumen.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders effectively.
  • Exemplary leadership skills, fostering personal development in yourself and others.
  • High visibility and accountability, along with exceptional communication abilities.
