Role Overview

As the Head of Regional Property, reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, your primary focus will be to steer the underwriting strategy and appetite for this line of business. You will collaborate with the CUO, other Line of Business Heads, and DUAL Executive members to execute the Regional Commercial business plan.

Your responsibilities will include enhancing regional underwriting capabilities, leading the underwriting strategy, guiding regional case underwriting decisions, and promoting continuous improvement in underwriting practices.

You will be tasked with establishing and maintaining underwriting standards and demonstrating effective leadership while advocating for solution-oriented underwriting approaches.

In partnership with the CUO, you will cultivate strong, technically-driven relationships with existing and prospective capacity providers, which are essential for supporting our underwriting strategy and achieving business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define line of business strategy, risk appetite, and pricing criteria.
  • Contribute to annual business planning processes.
  • Monitor portfolio performance against targets and forecast future results.
  • Adjust strategies based on portfolio performance to align with business plans.
  • Ensure a robust underwriting governance framework is established and adhered to.
  • Support regional underwriters in business acquisition, including case solutions and broker relationships.
  • Analyze claims trends and adjust reserves to optimize portfolio performance.
  • Stay informed about emerging risks and implement necessary actions.
  • Develop and implement underwriting training and development programs.
  • Collaborate with regional underwriting, distribution, and portfolio management teams to achieve broader Regional Commercial business objectives.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Extensive experience in relevant line of business underwriting, including senior authority roles.
  • Strong background in portfolio management, data analytics, and performance metrics.
  • Deep understanding of the commercial insurance mid-market and UK regulatory landscape.
  • Desirable degree or equivalent qualification with significant post-qualification experience.
  • ACII or FCII qualified (or equivalent).
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders effectively.
  • Proven leadership skills and commitment to personal development.
  • High visibility and accountability with excellent communication abilities.
