Position Overview
Orchard Therapeutics, a Kyowa Kirin Company, is a pioneering biotechnology firm focused on gene therapy aimed at improving the lives of individuals affected by rare diseases. Our innovative ex vivo autologous gene therapy utilizes genetically modified blood stem cells to address the root causes of diseases in a single treatment. With our global headquarters situated in London and U.S. headquarters in Boston, we are committed to advancing the field of gene therapy.
This role is integral to the Senior Director of Business Operations within the Technical Operations division. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, facilitating, and coordinating various processes, activities, and initiatives driven by the Tech Ops Business Operations team. Key responsibilities include process enhancement, budget management, risk and opportunity assessments, procurement and contract assistance, as well as employee engagement initiatives.
To excel in this position, candidates should possess strong organizational and multitasking abilities, proficient IT skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, along with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
This role is well-suited for individuals with a keen interest in operational excellence and process enhancement within the biotechnology sector, offering the chance to collaborate closely with senior leaders and technical teams to help achieve departmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities
· Facilitate Operational Excellence projects, including workshop coordination, project charter generation and approval, and the promotion of continuous improvement practices.
· Manage procurement activities for the Technical Operations division and assist in contract review and approval processes.
· Oversee the coordination and review of departmental budgets, risk management, operational workflows, and routine monitoring of external expenditures.
· Support strategic and long-range planning initiatives for the Technical Operations function.
· Maintain databases for business evaluations.
· Contribute ideas and assist in organizing engagement initiatives, such as coordinating monthly Lunch & Learn sessions.
· Aid in the design and preparation of presentations to facilitate departmental communication.
· Provide accurate reporting and governance support for technical functions.
Qualifications
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
· Proven experience as an operations coordinator or in a similar capacity, preferably within the biotechnology sector.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to cultivate effective working relationships.
· Process-oriented mindset with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Dependable, with exceptional time-management and organizational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks, anticipating challenges, and delivering results within tight deadlines.
· A collaborative team player with a flexible and customer-centric approach.
· Proficient in IT applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
· Experience in budget management and financial oversight.
· Familiarity with Operational Excellence and Lean program coordination.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Education
BSc or relevant industry experience in biotechnology, biological sciences, gene therapy, analytical development, or a discipline related to operational excellence or finance. Experience in a coordinator role within technical operations, procurement, project management, or operations in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
