Senior Materials Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Materials Scientist to join our Polymer Composite Materials team at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering and taking ownership of aspects of work focused on metrology for energy efficient manufacturing processes, circularity of materials, and high-value products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental work in the laboratory, including data exploration, written reports, and presentations.
  • Develop and implement new measurement techniques for characterising polymer composites.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to deliver research and commercial contracts.
  • Contribute to the development of new products and services, including the creation of technical reports and papers.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Materials Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience in materials characterisation and metrology.
  • Strong understanding of polymer composite materials and their applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
