We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electronics Engineer to join our Engineering team at National Physical Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital part in driving innovation and advancing our research capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automation, instrumentation, and safety systems and products
  • Transfer customer requirements into designs and specifications
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and commission automation systems
  • Sourcing and testing instrumentation to prove suitability for application
  • Prepare design risk assessments
  • Issue electrical wiring and interconnection drawings using CAD
  • Manage and maintain system documentation
  • Check designs and documentation for correctness and compliance with standards
  • Work with suitable suppliers of equipment, services, and material

Requirements

  • Experience designing electrical automation, instrumentation, and safety systems
  • Experience in creating and interpreting electrical schematics
  • Experience sizing protection components and cables
  • Excellent CAD design skills
  • A BSc degree qualification in an Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering discipline or equivalent experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of the machinery directive
  • Experience applying electrical safety standards (BS/EN 61010-1)
  • Experience of electromagnetic compatibility issues
  • System load and efficiency calculations
  • Control systems design and mechatronics/robotics systems
