About the Role

National Physical Laboratory is seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer to contribute to our Engineering team. This hybrid role will involve working on site in Teddington and remotely. We prioritize work-life balance and are open to discussing flexible or part-time working arrangements.

As our Senior Electronics Engineer, you will provide expertise in instrumentation and automation systems design, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards. Your work will have a significant impact on our business and the UK as a whole.

You will be part of a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, celebrating the unique contributions of each team member. As a senior member, you'll supervise those with less experience, sharing your knowledge and motivating them to improve. You'll also provide design solution advice and consultancy services across the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and assist in capturing customer requirements
  • Design automation, instrumentation, and safety systems and products
  • Transfer requirements into designs and specifications
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and commission automation systems
  • SOURCE and test instrumentation to prove suitability for application
  • Prepare design risk assessments
  • Issue electrical wiring and interconnection drawings using CAD
  • Manage and maintain system documentation
  • Check designs and documentation for correctness and compliance with standards
  • Work with suitable suppliers of equipment, services, and material

  • Designing electrical automation, instrumentation, and safety systems

  • Microcontrollers
  • Prototype tests and validation
  • Creating and interpreting electrical schematics
  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Design
  • Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) Design
  • Digital Signal Processors (DSP) Design
  • Sizing protection components and cables
  • BSc degree qualification in an Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
