About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electronics Engineer to join our Engineering team at the National Physical Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital part in advancing our research and development capabilities.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing automation, instrumentation, and safety systems, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards. Your work will have a significant impact on our business and the UK as a whole.

As a senior member of the team, you will supervise and mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and knowledge to drive excellence in our work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing automation, instrumentation, and safety systems
  • Transferring customer requirements into designs and specifications
  • Installing, testing, and commissioning automation systems
  • Sourcing and testing instrumentation to prove suitability for application
  • Preparing design risk assessments
  • Issuing electrical wiring and interconnection drawings using CAD
  • Managing and maintaining system documentation
  • Checking designs and documentation for correctness and compliance with standards

  • Designing electrical automation, instrumentation, and safety systems
  • Small Signal Electronics
  • Microcontrollers
  • Prototype tests and validation
  • Creating and interpreting electrical schematics
  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Design
  • Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) Design
  • Digital Signal Processors (DSP) Design
  • BSc degree qualification in an Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
