The General Optical Council (GOC) is excited to announce an internship opportunity as part of a collaborative initiative with Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB, aimed at enhancing employment prospects for individuals with visual impairments through the Get Set Progress (GSP) Internship programme.

This internship is designed to assist the Governance, People & Culture, and Facilities departments with various administrative responsibilities and project-related tasks. Key duties include managing incoming calls and providing support to reception staff, drafting correspondence for a new recognition initiative, and conducting background checks for prospective employees. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Manager on both internal and external EDI projects, facilitating meetings and discussions within the regulatory framework.
Responsibilities also encompass the organization and execution of EDI training sessions and workshops for employees, members, and stakeholders.
The intern will play a vital role in implementing a wellbeing initiative across the organization, in partnership with the EDI Manager and Head of People and Culture.
Contributions to the EDI section of the intranet will include writing articles and updates.
The intern will assist staff networks in planning and executing events, draft and distribute letters to employees regarding recognition awards, and keep nominees informed about the status of their nominations.
Monthly updates to the recognition database will be required to maintain budget oversight.

Facilities Support:
Provide assistance at the front desk as needed, including greeting visitors and answering phone inquiries.
Participate in an archiving project for historical records.
Offer administrative support for remote teams within the office.
Basic skills in data collection and analysis (Excel) are essential.
Strong administrative capabilities and a willingness to travel for development events are required (travel expenses covered).
Candidates must not have previously participated in the Get Set Progress internship programme.
