Southampton, Southampton, United Kingdom Project Management Full time

About the Organization

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) stands as the UK's premier institution dedicated to comprehensive coastal and deep ocean research. Our mission is to deepen the understanding of oceanic systems, contributing to the well-being of all life on Earth through innovative research and collaboration.

We pride ourselves on fostering a vibrant community that tackles complex marine science challenges, influencing both international and UK public policy, as well as business and societal outcomes.

The ocean holds immense potential to address various social, economic, and environmental issues globally. To fully leverage this potential, we prioritize ocean research, science, and discovery in our organizational culture.

Role Overview

In pursuit of becoming the world's most innovative oceanographic institution, NOC is committed to a coordinated and adaptable approach to financial and project management across its operations. The Project Management Group plays a crucial role in delivering a professional service that merges the management of key projects with a customer-oriented business partnership to assist project management practitioners throughout the organization.

The primary objective of this position is to assist project owners in executing strategically significant projects by providing access to expert project management knowledge. This may encompass both fixed and evolving project goals across NOC's varied marine science, research infrastructure, and corporate infrastructure portfolios.

Members of the Project Management Group are also expected to engage with NOC's professional community by staying informed about current best practices and trends in project management, sharing insights and knowledge with fellow practitioners. This role will particularly focus on equipping staff with the necessary tools and skills to manage evolving project goals, including the application of Agile methodologies.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a project management professional with experience in both waterfall and Agile methodologies to achieve successful project outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, scientists, corporate personnel, and senior stakeholders to facilitate project delivery. A commitment to teamwork and a customer-focused approach to project management is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a dedication to ongoing professional development and the implementation of best practices in project management.

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • 30 days of contractual annual leave, in addition to extra closure days and public holidays
  • A 10% employer contribution pension scheme
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support on various issues
  • A flexible benefits portal with discounts, cashback, and eGift cards
  • A Cycle2Work scheme for acquiring bicycles and accessories
  • A supportive work environment with social events throughout the year

Work Arrangement

This position allows for a hybrid working model, enabling staff to work from home up to two days per week. If you require a more flexible working arrangement, please reach out to the recruitment team.

Diversity and Inclusion

We are dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion within our workplace. We encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply, as we strive to create a supportive and equitable environment where every voice is valued.

We assess candidates solely based on their qualifications, skills, and experience, without regard to any protected characteristics.
