Senior Manager of Energy Policy for Industrial Transformation

About the RoleIn the capacity of Senior Manager of Energy Policy for Industrial Transformation, you will utilize your extensive knowledge of industry regulations (such as CUSC, STC, SQSS), policy frameworks, and governance structures to ensure that SSE Enterprise's strategic goals are in harmony with the dynamic energy sector landscape. This role involves evaluating the implications of strategic energy planning, the formation of an independent system operator, and reforms in energy codes. You will proactively identify and advocate for essential governance and code frameworks that facilitate the transition to Net Zero, aligning with the statutory responsibilities of regulatory bodies.
Travel may vary but could include regular visits to other offices and occasional trips to key locations.
Key Responsibilities:- Leading a comprehensive approach to code development, actively engaging with key stakeholders to understand developmental and operational challenges, and identifying how codes can provide support.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts in designated focus areas to pinpoint potential challenges and positions to advocate for, all aimed at advancing initiatives that contribute to our collective journey towards Net Zero.
- Maintaining a broad perspective on what each sector, including electricity, gas, heat, and transport, must achieve to fulfill Net Zero objectives. Understanding the interconnections between sectors, how their respective codes and markets interact, and whether they will aid or obstruct the delivery of Net Zero.
- Continuously developing and refining internal governance to assure the wider business when evaluating risks, opportunities, and implementation needs.
- Acting as a positive role model for all employees, ensuring that team members are supported, developed, and recognized for their contributions, while encouraging alignment with SSE Values.
To be successful in this role, we would appreciate your expertise in:
- A comprehensive understanding of the GB Networks businesses and energy codes from a networks, generation, or regulatory standpoint.
- Experience in technical policy and/or codes, along with a proven ability to effectively advocate for changes.
- The capability to network both internally and externally to foster relationships with stakeholders and key industry influencers.
- A proactive self-starter who can creatively approach solutions to complex industry challenges and substantiate recommendations with clear evidence, demonstrating a history of challenging the status quo.
- Experience in delivering results within tight deadlines, with the ability to prioritize, plan, and organize effectively, balancing immediate and long-term business objectives.
