Team Mission and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will join the analytical team within the Retail Policy sector of the Markets Directorate. Our mission is to safeguard and empower consumers through effective policy development, fostering innovative business models, and engaging with a diverse array of stakeholders to gather insights into industry dynamics and consumer requirements. Our team employs an agile approach to ensure timely delivery, prioritizing user needs.

Current focus areas include several key initiatives aimed at enhancing support for both present and future consumers, especially those in vulnerable situations. Recent analytical contributions have involved:
  • Establishing the rationale for retail market reforms.
  • Conducting impact assessments for significant policy initiatives aimed at improving customer service.
  • Performing detailed analyses of market monitoring data to inform regulatory compliance evaluations.
Key Duties and Deliverables
  • Conduct both quantitative and qualitative analyses to present clear, actionable insights that inform the policy development process.
  • Analyze intricate concepts and navigate uncertainty to resolve issues and contribute to sound policy recommendations.
  • Evaluate the reliability and relevance of evidence, providing objective counsel.
  • Deliver high-quality analyses to build the evidence base and conduct impact assessments as part of the policy development process.
  • Effectively communicate the advantages, challenges, and trade-offs associated with policy proposals to senior management, underpinned by solid evidence.
  • Create internal and external documentation, ensuring that analyses are presented in an accessible manner for non-expert audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and other analytical and policy experts to define and agree on analytical contributions for policy options.
  • Work cooperatively with peers and other teams to enhance analytical capabilities and ensure quality assurance.
Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications
  • Proven experience in delivering qualitative and/or quantitative analyses, with a focus on analytical quality assurance.
  • A degree in mathematics, science, computer science, economics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualization techniques.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to cultivate effective relationships with stakeholders, fostering constructive and transparent engagement.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the energy sector and regulatory frameworks, including a commercial understanding of the energy landscape and competition economics.
