Position: Senior Legal Counsel

Location: London, United Kingdom

Assala Energy stands as a prominent entity in the oil and gas sector, focusing on exploration and production with significant assets in Gabon. Our commitment lies in conducting responsible operations while enhancing value for our stakeholders.

We are on the lookout for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal team in London. In this role, you will oversee a diverse array of regulatory, corporate, financing, and compliance-related legal matters and transactions. A robust understanding of corporate structure and governance is essential to support the business activities of non-Gabon entities, while also coordinating with Gabon counsel for necessary undertakings. Working alongside the broader team and external counsel when needed, you will handle claims, disputes, and litigation, assist the finance group with corporate authorizations and KYC, and provide compliance and operational contract support to various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive legal support across all organizational departments.
  • Draft, negotiate, and evaluate intricate legal documents and contracts.
  • Facilitate corporate governance activities, including board and shareholder meetings, as necessary.
  • Manage claims, disputes, and litigation processes.
  • Assist the finance team with corporate authorizations, KYC, and lending activities.
  • Provide compliance contract support to HR, HSSE, CSR, and Operations.
  • Prepare tender packages, engage in negotiations, and oversee the contract lifecycle.
  • Offer legal guidance to the C&P department to ensure adherence to regulations and standards, while negotiating favorable terms for the business.
  • Develop, review, and conduct training on relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 4-8 years PQE qualified in the UK.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong grasp of corporate governance and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in upstream oil and gas contracting is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
