SENIOR COUNSEL - COMPETITION AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS - HYBRID

Position Overview
As a Senior Counsel specializing in Competition and Regulatory Affairs, you will play a pivotal role in navigating the complexities of a highly regulated market. This position requires a professional who is either UK, EU, or dual qualified and is adept at providing strategic legal guidance.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering comprehensive legal advice on competition and regulatory issues that are critical to the organization’s strategic objectives.
  • Representing the organization in discussions with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders.
  • Managing competition law and merger control inquiries from regulatory authorities.
  • Preparing detailed responses to information requests from competition authorities.
  • Communicating the organization’s policy positions to government and regulatory entities to support business goals.
  • Conducting training sessions for internal teams on competition law and compliance matters.
  • Overseeing external legal advisors and ensuring alignment with business strategies.
  • Collaborating with various departments, including Commercial, Economic Regulatory, Corporate Communications, Technology, and Risk & Compliance, to address competition-related issues.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department, focusing on competition law.
  • Proven expertise in providing competition law advice on commercial initiatives, strategic projects, and regulatory investigations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a strong ability to draft regulatory submissions and present complex legal concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are advantageous:

  • Experience working in-house within the telecommunications or communications sector.
  • Familiarity with the UK and EU regulatory frameworks governing telecommunications.
  • Knowledge of competition economics or policy.
  • Experience in supporting large-scale program implementations.
