Your Role:

As a Commodity Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our analytical capabilities within the power and gas sectors. Your expertise will be critical in developing innovative analytical tools designed specifically for the UK energy market. Your work will directly influence our stack model, balance model, margin-based model, and pricing analysis tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Trading Team to identify and fulfill their analytical platform needs.
  • Integrate with the Trading Desk to create analytical tools that align with business objectives.
  • Support decision-making processes related to trading strategies.
  • Utilize Python for data processing, analysis, and modeling in the Power and Gas sectors.
  • Conduct comprehensive time series analyses, including data pre-processing, feature extraction, web scraping, model selection, and evaluation.
  • Visualize analytical results through tools like Metabase, producing clear and insightful dashboards and reports.
  • Develop models for Position Balance, Market stacks, and price forecasting.
  • Assess and monitor the performance of external price forecasting models.
  • Create analytics focused on Power and Gas fundamentals, including system margin analysis, spark and dark spread analysis, fuel cost adjustment forecasts, and maintenance program adjustments.
  • Investigate innovative approaches using advanced statistical analysis and machine learning to enhance forecasting inputs and support long-term trading strategies.
  • Provide analytical support to the UK team.

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in an analytical role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python programming.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the Power/Gas industry or energy markets is advantageous.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in Python.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Metabase, with the ability to create engaging and user-friendly dashboards and reports, and knowledge of SQL.
  • Understanding of time series analysis, including common models and algorithms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of independently managing data analysis projects, with familiarity in advanced statistical methodologies like PCA.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, effective in collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
