Role Overview

As a pivotal member of our trading team, you will contribute to the advancement of a sustainable energy future. At Octopus Energy, we are committed to achieving Net Zero emissions, and enhancing grid flexibility is essential to navigate the challenges posed by a renewable energy landscape. Your role as an Energy Market Trader will be integral in developing innovative solutions that address the pressing global demand for energy flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced analytical tools to make swift and profitable trading decisions.
  • Engage in trading activities within the Intraday Power market to effectively manage the company's exposure on its substantial hedge portfolio.
  • Maximize value through the optimization of flexible assets in the short-term market.
  • Adapt trading strategies based on the evolving forecasts of our Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolio.
  • Contribute ideas for enhancements to our analytics suite and collaborate with the team on trading strategies.
  • Assist in the development and design of algorithmic trading strategies.
  • Coordinate with the Trading Manager to ensure that short-term exposure risks are comprehensively understood across the organization.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Commodity Trading or a related field.
  • A strong interest in the challenges of decarbonization and the role of grid flexibility in achieving it.
  • Proficiency in synthesizing numerical data to make informed decisions rapidly.
  • A desire to understand the fundamental drivers of the power market and excel as a trader.
  • A competitive spirit and a drive to succeed in a fast-paced market environment.
  • Ability to maintain focus on market dynamics, even during periods of low volatility.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
