Position Overview:
As a Commodity Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our analytical capabilities within the power and gas sectors. Your expertise will be crucial in developing sophisticated analytical tools that cater specifically to the dynamics of the UK energy market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Trading Team to gather insights and requirements for the analytics platform.
- Integrate with the Trading Desk to create analytical tools that align with business objectives.
- Influence trading strategy decisions through data-driven insights.
- Utilize Python for data processing, analysis, and modeling within the Power and Gas markets.
- Perform time series analysis, including data pre-processing, feature extraction, web scraping, model selection, and evaluation.
- Create visual representations of analysis results using tools like Metabase, ensuring clarity and informativeness in dashboards and reports.
- Develop models for Position Balance, Market stacks, and price forecasting.
- Assess and track the performance of external price forecasting models.
- Conduct analytics related to Power and Gas fundamentals, including system margin analysis and fuel cost adjustment forecasts.
- Innovate using advanced statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to enhance forecasting inputs and support strategic trading initiatives.
- Provide analytical support to the UK team.
Qualifications:
- 2 to 3 years of experience in an analytical role.
- Proficient programming skills in Python.
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Experience in the Power/Gas industry or energy markets is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Metabase and SQL.
- Understanding of time series analysis and common models.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with various stakeholders.
