Research Nurse Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

As a Research Nurse at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting venepuncture and IV cannulation procedures with competence and accuracy.
  • Maintaining and completing source documentation, ensuring the preparation of study activities is overseen.
  • Recording patients' medical history and current health status at research clinic attendance.
  • Performing phlebotomy, monitoring vital signs, and conducting other specialized nursing procedures as required.

Leadership and Coordination:

You will participate in and coordinate the planning, development, and implementation of clinical protocols in accordance with research parameters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and carrying out protocols for the screening, recruitment, and retention of clinical research subjects.
  • Instructing subjects on treatment methods and protocol.
  • Undertaking appropriate data collection systems and procedures, specimen collection, processing, and recording of clinical data and/or specimen samples as required.
  • Updating the research database with clinical data.

Professional Development:

You will be expected to:

  • Keep up to date with departmental and Trust policies and NHS developments for the management of clinical research.
  • Attend courses and study days as deemed relevant to the post.
  • Act as a personal and professional role model at all times.
  • Maintain the Personal Development Plan in discussions with line manager.
  • Take responsibility for meeting with senior staff for support and clinical supervision.

Compliance and Governance:

You will be responsible for:

  • Compliance with ICH GCP.
  • Compliance with the law, including the Nursing Midwifery and Health Visiting Act 1979 and the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Compliance with the Data Protection Act 1984 and the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
  • Compliance with Trust, Directorate, and Clinical Trials Unit policies and protocols.
  • Maintenance of personal and professional development.
