ROLE SUMMARY

We are in search of a seasoned legal professional to assume the role of Senior Legal Counsel, focusing on international operations. This position entails significant responsibilities within a medium-sized in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), including a background in a prestigious law firm and prior in-house experience with a multinational entity. This full-time role is based in our European headquarters, with collaboration across teams in various regions and occasional travel to international offices.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this position encompasses a wide array of legal responsibilities, addressing CoStar's international legal matters, including but not limited to intellectual property, contract negotiations, litigation, employment law, real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and anti-piracy initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manage all legal matters pertaining to CoStar's operations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders to effectively address their legal support requirements.
  • Provide guidance on various legal disputes, encompassing content protection, intellectual property, and contractual issues.
  • Collaborate with the US-based privacy team to manage privacy and compliance issues, including the development of relevant policies for international operations.
  • Negotiate customer and vendor contracts, as well as lease agreements, in partnership with US-based teams.
  • Support international mergers and acquisitions in collaboration with the corporate team based in the US.
  • Oversee general corporate matters for international subsidiaries, including regulatory compliance and necessary filings.
  • Manage international employment-related legal issues, working closely with Human Resources and supervising an in-house employment attorney.
  • Address anti-piracy and content protection legal matters, partnering with investigative teams and outside counsel as needed.
  • Work with senior leadership to establish policies aimed at preventing and identifying piracy.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree from a reputable university with strong academic credentials.
  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent qualification from a European jurisdiction).
  • Authorization to work in the UK is essential.
  • A minimum of 10 years' PQE, with experience in a top law firm and prior in-house roles within a multinational corporation.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, including GDPR compliance.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to a dynamic workload.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proactive, decisive, and capable of exercising sound judgment independently.
  • Knowledge of the US legal system and experience within a multinational company is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in additional languages such as French, German, or Spanish is a plus, though not mandatory.
