POSITION SUMMARY
CoStar is in search of a seasoned attorney to fill the role of Senior Legal Counsel for International Operations. This position carries substantial responsibility and senior-level engagement within a medium-sized in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), including tenure at a prestigious law firm and prior in-house experience with a multinational entity. This role is a full-time position based in CoStar's European headquarters, with collaboration across teams in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, requiring occasional travel to various offices.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this attorney will manage a wide array of legal matters pertaining to CoStar's international operations, encompassing intellectual property (copyright and trademark), contract negotiations with clients and vendors, litigation, employment law, real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and anti-piracy initiatives.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a creative and pragmatic approach to addressing global business and legal challenges, excel in a dynamic environment, possess outstanding credentials, exhibit meticulous attention to detail, and showcase strong written and verbal communication skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and coordinate all legal matters related to CoStar's operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia;
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders to efficiently address their legal support needs;
- Provide counsel on a broad spectrum of legal disputes, including content protection and intellectual property issues;
- Collaborate with the US-based privacy team to manage privacy and compliance matters, including the development and implementation of relevant policies;
- Negotiate customer and vendor contracts, as well as lease agreements, in partnership with the US-based team;
- Support international mergers and acquisitions in collaboration with the US corporate team;
- Oversee general corporate legal work for international subsidiaries, including commercial agreements and regulatory compliance;
- Manage international employment-related legal issues, partnering with Human Resources to address workplace complaints and advising on policies;
- Lead anti-piracy and content protection legal matters, working with investigative teams and external counsel as necessary;
- Collaborate with senior leadership to establish policies for piracy prevention and identification;
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree from a reputable university with strong academic credentials;
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent qualification);
- Right to work in the UK is essential;
- Minimum of 10 years' PQE, including experience at a top law firm and in-house with a multinational corporation;
- Familiarity with relevant legislation in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, including GDPR;
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
- Strong analytical and negotiation abilities;
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with adaptability to changing workloads;
- Acute attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks;
- Initiative and decisiveness, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment;
- Knowledge of the US legal system and experience within a multinational company is advantageous;
- Fluency or advanced proficiency in French, German, or Spanish is desirable but not mandatory.
