We are collaborating with a prominent Private Equity-backed organization as they seek to appoint a technically proficient, dynamic, and motivated Strategic Finance Lead to support their growth trajectory. As a key member of this diverse and acquisitive group, the successful applicant will oversee a team of analysts and cultivate essential strategic partnerships across the category to ensure optimal working capital management within the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Finance, you will be expected to travel as necessary, although your daily operations can be conducted remotely.

Key Responsibilities of the Role Strategic Finance Lead:

  • Evaluate and challenge category performance while preparing analyses for weekly dissemination.
  • Assess company performance against market dynamics, identifying both risks and opportunities.
  • Manage forecasting and budgeting from a product category perspective.
  • Assist in commercial negotiations, particularly in modeling adjustments to deal structures.
  • Support the procurement team in evaluating the working capital implications of current and future commercial negotiations.
  • Ensure that supplier rebates and other financial incentives are accurately represented in the Profit & Loss statement, regularly reviewing the rebate debtor to maximize the group's working capital position.
  • Oversee accrual accuracy and ensure timely collection of contract support, taking proactive measures to resolve issues with the commercial team.
  • Maximize price deferral income by ensuring all due payments are claimed.
  • Guarantee the accuracy of the rebate element of stock (RES) calculations to prevent misstatements.
  • Engage with category directors to ensure all supplier terms are comprehensively understood and accurately recorded in relevant systems.
  • Contribute to the Group's working capital optimization by assisting Operations in maintaining optimal stock levels across branches.
  • Deliver insightful inventory reporting to all business areas, particularly regarding gross stock and the rebate element of stock.
  • Develop and implement appropriate accounting policies concerning stock aging while executing strategies to minimize aged stock.
  • Provide line management for three commercial analysts focused on inventory, commercial income, and category management.

Key Requirements for the Role Strategic Finance Lead:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to perform well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in financial modeling, analysis, and forecasting, along with a background in business partnering and managing multiple stakeholders, including prior line management experience.
  • Possess a recognized finance qualification or have substantial experience (QBE).
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with the building materials merchanting sector and/or experience supporting commercial stakeholders from a financial perspective is advantageous.
