We are collaborating with a prominent Private Equity-backed organization as they seek to appoint a technically proficient, dynamic, and motivated Strategic Finance Lead to accompany them on their journey towards an Initial Public Offering (IPO). As a crucial member of this diverse and acquisitional group, the successful applicant will oversee a team of analysts and cultivate essential strategic partnerships across various categories to ensure the optimization of working capital within the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Finance, you will be expected to travel as necessary, although your daily operations can be conducted remotely.

Key Responsibilities of the Role Strategic Finance Lead:

  • Monitor and critically assess category performance, preparing analyses to be disseminated weekly.
  • Evaluate company performance against market trends, identifying both risks and opportunities.
  • Manage forecasting and budgeting from a product category perspective.
  • Assist in commercial negotiations, particularly in modeling changes to deal structures.
  • Support the procurement team in evaluating the working capital implications of both current and future commercial negotiations.
  • Ensure that supplier rebates and other financial elements (e.g., marketing funds) are accurately represented in the Profit & Loss statement, and that the rebate debtor is regularly reviewed to maximize the group's working capital position.
  • Oversee accrual accuracy and ensure prompt collection of contract support, taking action to challenge the commercial team for resolutions whenever issues arise.
  • Maximize price deferral income by ensuring that no due payments remain unclaimed.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the rebate element of stock (RES) calculation to prevent misstatements.
  • Consult with category directors to ensure that all supplier terms are comprehensively understood and accurately recorded in relevant systems.
  • Contribute to the group's working capital optimization by assisting Operations in maintaining the optimal level of stock across branches.
  • Provide insightful inventory reporting to all business areas, particularly regarding gross stock and the rebate element of stock.
  • Develop and implement suitable accounting policies concerning stock aging while executing strategies to minimize aged stock.
  • Manage a team of three commercial analysts aligned with inventory, commercial income, and category management.

Key Requirements for the Role Strategic Finance Lead:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to perform well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in financial modeling, financial analysis, and forecasting, alongside a background in business partnering, stakeholder management, and previous line management experience.
  • Possess a recognized finance qualification or have substantial experience (Qualified by Experience).
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with the building materials merchanting sector and/or experience supporting commercial stakeholders from a financial perspective is desirable.
