POSITION OVERVIEW
As a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary group, you will assist the Project Lead in executing research initiatives for a funded project focused on sound and meaning innovation.


Project Overview:
This initiative aims to translate intangible phenomena, such as cosmic entities, digital network activity, and natural forces, into auditory experiences.

The project is spearheaded by a distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer & Information Sciences, collaborating with experts from related fields.

This role is supported for the entire project duration, which is anticipated to commence shortly.


This
two-year initiative is designed to make complex scientific concepts accessible through sound.


In addition to laboratory and experimental tasks, the project will actively involve diverse community members, ranging from students to adult audiences.

Funding for conference participation is included.


Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the project with a focus on research development utilizing sonification techniques across various domains including astronomy, materials science, computing, and atmospheric studies.

A solid foundation in computer science, along with proven programming skills and experience in collaborative environments such as version control systems, is essential.


You will collaborate closely with another full-time Research Associate, ensuring a cohesive research effort.

A background in sonification practices will be crucial for fostering interdisciplinary partnerships within the team.

This position presents an exciting opportunity to engage in pioneering interdisciplinary research.

TEAM STRUCTURE


This research endeavor is led by the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, with contributions from the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, and Electrical Engineering, as well as the School of Arts and Cultures.

The Project Lead is recognized as a leader in the field of auditory display and has been involved in various significant sonification projects that explore the intersection of sound and listener experience.

Current and past projects have included collaborations that utilize sonification to enhance understanding in fields such as astronomy and material science.

Related initiatives emphasize the integration of sound arts with natural environments and interdisciplinary research.


CANDIDATE PROFILE


Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, demonstrating specialized knowledge in collaborative software development and familiarity with data sonification techniques.

Strong leadership skills in designing and conducting experiments, interviews, and focus groups are required.

Commitment to collaborative work within an interdisciplinary framework is essential, including active participation in research discussions and joint projects.
