POSITION SUMMARY
As a vital member of a collaborative research initiative, you will assist the Project Lead in executing research activities on a funded project focused on innovative sonification techniques.


Project Overview:
This project, spearheaded by esteemed faculty members from multiple disciplines, aims to translate abstract concepts, such as cosmic phenomena and material properties, into auditory experiences.

The project is led by a distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer & Information Sciences, alongside co-leads from Mathematics, Physics, and the Arts.

This role is supported for the full term of the project, which is set to explore the intersection of sound and scientific data.


This
two-year initiative is designed to engage diverse audiences, from educational institutions to general public events.


In addition to hands-on studio work, you will focus on advancing research in sonification related to fields such as astronomy, materials science, and environmental monitoring.

Your background in computer science, coupled with strong programming skills and experience in collaborative environments like GitHub, will be essential for success in this role.


You will collaborate closely with another full-time Research Associate, ensuring a synergistic approach to the project’s objectives.

A foundational understanding of sonification methodologies will be crucial for fostering interdisciplinary partnerships within the team.

This position presents an exciting opportunity to engage in pioneering interdisciplinary research.

TEAM DYNAMICS


The research initiative is coordinated within the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, with contributions from various departments, including Mathematics, Physics, and the Arts. The Project Lead is recognized for their leadership in the field of auditory display.

The team has a history of successful interdisciplinary projects, focusing on the integration of sound design and user experience, and has been involved in several notable initiatives that bridge scientific inquiry and auditory representation.

CANDIDATE PROFILE


Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or a closely related field, demonstrating expertise in collaborative software development and familiarity with data sonification techniques.

Strong leadership skills in designing and conducting experiments, as well as engaging with research participants, are essential.

Commitment to working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary framework is a must, including active participation in research discussions and joint projects.
