Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Speech and Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification
- Competency in Dysphagia management
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Preferred Qualifications
- Videofluoroscopy competencies at RCSLT level 3
- Experience in assessing and managing patients with tracheostomy
Relevant Experience
Essential Experience
- Experience working with diverse conditions, including respiratory and neurological disorders, acquired conditions, and geriatric care in an acute environment
- Proven ability to independently assess, manage, and discharge patients with communication disorders and dysphagia
Desirable Experience
- Experience supervising students and junior staff
- Background in a Critical Care setting
Technical Competencies
Essential Competencies
- Proficient in assessing, managing, and treating patients with complex multi-pathologies at a specialist level
- Skills in evaluating and supporting the use of alternative and augmentative communication aids
- Ability to prioritize clinical and non-clinical tasks independently

- Skills to educate and supervise staff and assistants
Knowledge Base
Essential Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of the pathology related to neurological and respiratory conditions, geriatric medicine, gastroenterology, and critical care
- Familiarity with the clinical pathway for patients transitioning from acute care to long-term management
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its application in clinical settings
- Understanding of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines, and relevant national strategy documents
- Ability to critically evaluate evidence and apply it to clinical practice
Desirable Knowledge
- Awareness of care pathways for patients with tracheostomy
