Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements
- A degree in Speech and Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification
- Competency in Dysphagia management
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Preferred Qualifications
- Videofluoroscopy competencies at RCSLT level 3
- Experience in assessing and managing patients with tracheostomy
Professional Experience
Mandatory Experience
- Experience working with diverse conditions such as respiratory and neurological disorders, acquired disorders, chronic conditions, and elderly care in acute settings
- Proficiency in independent assessment, management, therapeutic intervention, and discharge planning for patients with communication disorders and dysphagia
Preferred Experience
- Experience supervising students and junior staff
- Experience in a Critical Care environment
Technical Proficiencies
Mandatory Skills
- Ability to assess, manage, and treat patients with complex multi-pathologies at a specialist level
- Skills in evaluating and supporting the use of alternative and augmentative communication aids
- Capacity to independently prioritize both clinical and non-clinical workloads
Preferred Skills
- Skills to educate and supervise staff and assistants
Knowledge Base
Mandatory Knowledge
- A solid understanding of the pathology associated with neurological conditions, respiratory issues, geriatric medicine, gastroenterology, and critical care
- Familiarity with the clinical pathway for patients transitioning from acute care to long-term management
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and its application in clinical settings
- Awareness of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines, and national strategy documents
- Ability to critically evaluate evidence and apply it to clinical practice
Preferred Knowledge
- Understanding of care pathways for patients with tracheostomy
