We are seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to become an integral part of our healthcare team at Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group. This role involves providing specialized assessment and therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert assessment and therapy to adult inpatients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Offer formal supervision and support to fellow colleagues.
  • Oversee the supervision of students in the clinical setting.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Therapy or a related field.
  • RCSLT Dysphagia Competency certification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Demonstrated engagement in continuous professional development activities, including participation in CEN groups.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Videofluoroscopy competencies at RCSLT level 3.
  • Experience in assessing and managing patients with tracheostomy.
  • Completion of Level 1 FEES training.

Experience

Essential Experience

  • Proven ability to independently assess, manage, and provide therapeutic interventions for patients with communication disorders and dysphagia.
  • Experience in providing caregiver support within healthcare environments.
  • Familiarity with a variety of conditions, including respiratory and neurological disorders, as well as care for the elderly in acute settings.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supervising students and junior staff members.
  • Background in critical care settings.

Technical Proficiencies

Essential Skills

  • Ability to assess, manage, and treat patients with complex multi-pathologies at a specialist level.
  • Competence in producing clear written documentation of interventions and reports.
  • Capability to prioritize clinical and non-clinical workloads independently.

  • Tracheostomy competencies.

  • Strong understanding of the pathology associated with neurological and respiratory conditions, as well as geriatric medicine and gastroenterology.
  • Ability to evaluate evidence and apply it to clinical practice.
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance and its significance in clinical scenarios.
  • Familiarity with National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines, and relevant national strategy documents.
