Qualifications
Essential criteria
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent RCSLT Dysphagia Competency HCPC registration Evidence of a range of CPD activities including membership of CEN groups
Desirable criteria
Videofluoroscopy competencies RCSLT level 3 Competence in the assessment and management of patients with tracheostomy Level 1 FEES training
Experience
Essential criteria
Independent assessment, management, therapeutic intervention and discharge of patients with communication disorders and dysphagia Providing carer support in healthcare settings Working with a range of conditions including respiratory, neurological conditions, acquired disorders, long-term conditions and care of the elderly in an acute setting
Desirable criteria
Supervision of students and junior staff Experience working in critical care
Technical Skills
Essential criteria
Skills to assess, manage & treat conditions and patients with complex multi pathologies at specialist level Skills to produce clear written documentation of intervention & reports Skills to independently prioritise clinical and nonclinical workload

Knowledge
Essential criteria
Sound understanding of the pathology of neurological conditions, respiratory conditions, older person’s medicine, gastroenterology. Ability to critique evidence base and apply to clinical practice Understanding of Clinical Governance and its relevance to clinical situations Understanding of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance and National strategy documents
Desirable criteria
Knowledge of pathways for patients with a tracheostomy
