Job Summary

The Regional Research Specialty Lead will play a key leadership role in the on-going development and performance of the Research Delivery Network (RDN). As part of this function, the Regional Research Specialty Lead will provide strategic oversight, leadership, and advice to support research delivery within health and care settings.

Main Responsibilities
  • Strategic oversight of the regional RDN portfolio, ensuring alignment with national and regional research priorities.
  • Support regional portfolio oversight activities, including the planning, placement, and performance monitoring of studies.
  • Identify and address impact on regional health and social inequalities at all stages of research delivery.
  • Support the RDN Study Support Service in the development of research proposals, protocols, and study designs.
  • Provide health and care intelligence to support research delivery, including the identification of sites and Principal Investigators.
  • Advise on study deliverability and undertake deliverability assessments to ensure equitable community-wide access and areas of high patient need.
  • Build regional capacity and capability for study delivery, ensuring local needs for research delivery are identified and addressed.
  • Participate in projects to address opportunities and challenges identified through the RDN Operating Model for strategic development and Research Delivery Models.
  • Embed research, engagement, and delivery into the NHS and wider care environment, engaging and initiating relevant regional stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and mentorship of future/new Principal Investigators across the health and care sector.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and promote regional cross-specialty and cross-setting collaborations for improved research delivery.
  • Contribute to national and regional RDN strategic development for research delivery, attending national specialty meetings and regional leadership group meetings.
  • Act as regional NIHR RDN Ambassadors, supporting the National and NHS E-based Specialty Leads in activities to raise awareness of the Specialty.
  • Engage in business development activities, providing health and care research expertise and knowledge to support optimal research delivery in discussions with commercial organisations.
