Position Overview

We invite applications for the role of Gastroenterology Clinical Fellow at the ST3+ level.

This position encompasses responsibilities in outpatient consultations, endoscopic training, inpatient coverage, and participation in unselected general medical on-call duties. The selected candidate will benefit from a tailored flexible schedule designed to accommodate their training requirements while engaging in numerous educational initiatives.

The clinical fellow will integrate into a team comprising 2 Registrars, 2 Specialty Trainees, and 3 Foundation Year doctors. Additionally, collaboration will occur with 4 IBD specialist nurses, 4 nurse endoscopists, and 2 Hepatology nurses. The inpatient unit accommodates 20-25 beds.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the Gastroenterology Team.
  • Engage in supervised Consultant-led outpatient clinics for both new and returning patients.
  • Provide inpatient care for 20-25 individuals.
  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Be involved in the general medicine on-call rota, including after-hours duties.
  • Engage in clinical audits.
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate educational activities.
  • Perform necessary duties during emergencies and unforeseen situations.

Job Responsibilities

Management and Leadership Duties:

All personnel within each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician and the Associate Medical Director, who oversees the services within the Directorate. Clinical Fellow ST3+ level practitioners are vital members of the Directorate team, responsible for implementing service improvements that enhance patient experiences as directed by senior team members.

  • Support and mentor junior colleagues as appropriate.
  • Contribute to leadership and development initiatives under the guidance of the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director, aligning with the Trust's strategic objectives.
  • Ensure effective communication and staff engagement across the Directorate, assisting the Divisional Director in achieving their goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other Directorates within the Trust.
  • Adhere to the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the formulation of clinical policies and compliance with established protocols.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Full registration with the GMC.
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.

Clinical Experience

Essential:

  • Clinical training/experience equivalent to ST trainees.
  • Experience in Gastroenterology and General medical conditions.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.

Management and Administration

Essential:

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Ability to instruct clinical skills to trainees and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in leading multi-professional educational initiatives.
  • Capacity to function within a multidisciplinary team.
