Position Overview
We are seeking applications for a full-time Clinical Fellow ST3+ in the field of Urology.
The Urology Department is composed of a diverse team of Consultants, Specialty Trainees, and Clinical Fellows, ranging from ST3 to ST8 levels, alongside junior trainees. This is a dynamic clinical setting characterized by a high volume of both elective and emergency surgical procedures, offering ample opportunities for professional growth. Many of our current trust grade registrars are in the process of completing their FRCS examinations.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will integrate into the Urology team, sharing responsibilities for the daily management of in-patients. Duties will include serving as the on-call Urology registrar, participating in surgical procedures, and attending outpatient clinics. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the training of junior staff and medical students associated with the Urology Department.

Job Duties
The Urology department has a longstanding tradition of providing comprehensive Urological training, emphasizing hands-on experience in a busy District General Hospital environment. The successful candidates will be required to provide on-call coverage on a 1 in 3 rolling rota and will be responsible for ward coverage of in-patients. There are opportunities for practical training in the operating theatre. Furthermore, the successful candidate will have the chance to take study leave to attend relevant examinations and courses.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualifications recognized by the GMC.
- Current GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Successful completion of MRCS or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated progression in training.
Clinical Experience:
- Completion of F1 and F2 years (or equivalent outside the UK).
- Completion of CT/ST1/2 in General Surgery.
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- A minimum of 24 months of surgical experience, including at least 6 months in General Surgery.
- Evidence of a solid progression in the chosen career path.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated understanding and application of specialty knowledge.
- Willingness to seek guidance from senior colleagues when necessary.
Clinical Competencies:
- Proficient in history taking and examination skills, including basic life support and resuscitation.
- Ability to accept responsibility and take on leadership roles.
Teaching and Research:
- Interest in research activities.
- Experience in teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Ability to contribute to departmental teaching sessions.
- Demonstrated case presentations.
Personal Attributes:
- Effective communication skills with patients and their families.
