Gastroenterology Clinical Fellow ST3+

We are seeking candidates for the position of Gastroenterology Clinical Fellow ST3+. This role encompasses outpatient consultations, endoscopy training, ward responsibilities, and participation in unselected general medical on-call duties. The selected individual will benefit from a tailored flexible schedule designed to accommodate their training requirements and will engage in numerous educational initiatives.
The clinical fellow will integrate into a team comprising 2 Registrars, 2 Specialty trainees, and 3 Foundation Year doctors. Additionally, collaboration will occur with 4 IBD specialist nurses, 4 nurse endoscopists, and 2 Hepatology nurses. The inpatient unit accommodates 20-25 beds.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive and may be adjusted based on service needs.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- To actively participate in the Gastroenterology Team at the Great Western Hospital.
- To engage in supervised Consultant-led outpatient clinics for both new and follow-up patients.
- To provide inpatient care for 20-25 patients.
- To attend weekly MDT meetings.
- To be involved in the general medicine on-call rota, including out-of-hours duties.
- Participation in clinical audits.
- To contribute to educational activities for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- To perform appropriate duties in emergency situations.
Any additional responsibilities relevant to the department.

Management and Leadership DutiesManagement and Leadership Responsibilities:
All personnel within each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician and to the Associate Medical Director, who holds overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate. Clinical Fellow ST3+ level doctors are integral members of the Directorate team and are accountable for implementing service changes aimed at enhancing patient experiences as directed by senior team members.
- To mentor and oversee junior colleagues as necessary.
- To contribute to leadership and development initiatives under the guidance of the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director, aligning with the Trust's strategic objectives.
- The post holder will ensure effective communication and engagement of staff across the Directorate, supporting the Divisional Director in achieving their goals.
- Collaborate with colleagues across other Directorates within the Trust.
- Adhere to the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the formulation of clinical policies and compliance with standing orders and financial procedures.
Qualifications:
- Fully registered with the GMC.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.
- Clinical training/experience equivalent to ST trainees.
- Experience in Gastroenterology and General medical conditions.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities.
- Capability to function effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to instruct clinical skills to trainees and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Interest in leading multi-professional educational initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to verify any prior criminal convictions.
