Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our senior management team, overseeing operations across multiple healthcare facilities and facilitating the transition to our upcoming hospital site.

The Senior Manager of Surgical Operations is a prominent leadership role within the Surgical Services Clinical Group, tasked with the operational execution of a diverse and dynamic service portfolio. We are seeking a skilled and driven operational leader to collaborate with the Clinical Director and Senior Nursing Team to ensure exceptional care and experiences for our patients. This role will encompass the management of Trauma and Orthopedic services, contributing to our esteemed reputation for delivering high-quality and well-managed healthcare services.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for advancing elective recovery in Trauma and Orthopedics, implementing innovative transformation initiatives while closely monitoring key performance indicators. They will identify areas for enhancement and expansion, playing a vital role in the strategic planning and development of the service. A comprehensive understanding of performance standards is essential, as the successful candidate will oversee compliance with national targets.

The selected individual will be expected to:

1. Make independent decisions regarding the operational management of services within the department.

2. Assume daily responsibility for the operational oversight of specific services or departments.

3. Identify and implement ongoing modernization and innovative practices within the department.

4. Regularly monitor and assess performance related to national objectives and organizational goals, taking necessary actions to ensure all targets are achieved.

5. Address operational challenges that impact performance within the department, collaborating with relevant managers to identify and resolve issues as needed.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Group Director of Operations, the post holder will directly oversee the relevant department and will have specific cross-departmental responsibilities as assigned by the Group Director of Operations. They will ensure operational safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of services, alongside effective clinical governance and risk management within the department, as well as budgetary and workforce oversight.

The post holder will support the Group Director of Operations in implementing service changes and developments, acting as a deputy on matters related to the Group and collaborating effectively with clinical colleagues.

Experience Requirements

Essential

Demonstrated project management experience involving transformational change. Significant management experience within acute services, with accountability for operational matters, including staff oversight, budget management, performance targets, waiting list management, and discharge processes.

Desirable

Proven experience in service development. Demonstrated ability in change management. Experience in emergency services.

Management Qualifications

Essential

Management or Leadership qualification or equivalent. Postgraduate diploma or equivalent. Educated to degree level or equivalent.

Desirable

Master’s qualification or currently pursuing one.
