Job Title: Commissioning Editor, Global Content and Methodologies, Language Learning
Location: Hybrid working model
About the Role
The Commissioning Editor plays a crucial role in collaborating with the Publisher for Global Content and Methodologies to establish and execute frameworks for global methodologies and universal content across various educational portfolios, including pre-primary, primary, secondary, and adult education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct market research aligned with the publishing strategy, ensuring projects fulfill the publishing vision and meet business objectives.
- Plan and schedule projects, collaborating with the Publisher and Portfolio teams to develop concepts and frameworks for materials.
- Identify suitable contributors and initiate proposal development.
- Commission and collaborate with authors and contributors to create materials that adhere to the project brief.
- Work alongside the content development team to assess materials against project specifications.
- Provide clear briefs to both internal and external content developers regarding project specifications, tasks, schedules, and workflows.
- Negotiate and manage content development contracts with support from Editorial Services.
- Understand digital requirements for segments and contribute to the digital roadmap as necessary.
- Utilize both in-house and external content development resources to ensure timely publication.
- Adhere to all company content development procedures and best-practice guidelines.
- Prepare costings, forecasts, specifications, and business cases for P&L approval in collaboration with the Publisher.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential:
- Degree-level education or equivalent, with a formal ELT/TEFL qualification.
- Strong background in English language teaching and familiarity with ELT markets and segments.
- Proven experience in ELT publishing at a project leadership level, demonstrating successful ELT/EFL product development.
- Experience with various new media and a solid understanding of publishing technologies and content management systems.
- A positive, adaptable mindset with innovative thinking capabilities.
- Appreciation for diverse international teaching and learning contexts.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including outstanding written English.
- Strong team collaboration and organizational abilities.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of a second language.
