Position Overview

The ideal candidate will become a vital member of our dedicated team of Pediatric Nurses and Health Care Assistants, delivering compassionate care and support to children facing short-term illnesses, long-term disabilities, chronic health issues, and end-of-life care. Our services are provided in diverse environments, including residential homes, educational institutions, and clinical facilities.

You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing clinical supervision to foster your professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

The Pediatric Community Nursing Team operates with a commitment to excellence and includes specialized services such as a Children's Asthma Team, Oncology Service, and Epilepsy Nurse Specialists. As a Community Pediatric Nurse, you will deliver care under the guidance of the Team Leader and Community Nurse Specialists across various settings, including homes, schools, and clinics. Our team provides essential services seven days a week, including holidays, with shifts scheduled through a monthly roster. Additionally, we offer an on-call service outside of regular hours to ensure 24-hour support for children and young people receiving end-of-life care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Child Branch) or RSCN with evidence of relevant post-registration training and qualifications.

Desirable

  • Evidence of leadership and/or management training.

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of post-registration clinical experience working with children and their families, or 12-18 months of post-registration experience along with approximately 12 months as a Band 5 Associate Community Children's Nurse. A broad range of professional knowledge and experience in pediatric nursing, including palliative care, oncology, respiratory, cardiac, gastroenterology, special needs, and complex care.

Desirable

  • Experience in providing palliative care within a community setting.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Comprehensive nursing knowledge and experience in basic clinical nursing skills, including care for tracheostomies, enteral feeding devices, and central venous catheters.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the various roles of nurses within community settings.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Strong clinical skills, effective communication abilities with children and their caregivers, and the capacity to prioritize workload. Proficient IT skills and meticulous record-keeping in accordance with professional guidelines. Ability to work independently.
