Job Summary

The Government Affairs Director will support the Corporate Affairs team by driving global government relations, while also contributing to the wider work of the team in corporate communications and internal communications. This role will focus on informing, uniting, and protecting the company's interests, aligning with Oxford Nanopore Technologies' key priorities to increase awareness, understanding, and collaboration with the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage global government relations programs for the company, working closely with the SVP Corporate Affairs and commercial teams to develop strategies and connections.
  • Align with the Corporate Comms team to ensure all government affairs work is coordinated and effective.
  • Support the Government Affairs team with briefings, administrative tasks, and project management.
  • Develop and coordinate plans to engage with government officials, including building relationships with key stakeholders and creating intelligence reports.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and external agencies to develop and deliver an effective influencing plan for government relations, reflecting the company's priorities and leading to improved relationships and a raised profile.
  • Manage major company events and high-profile meetings with government officials, providing support with project management, briefings, and general administration.
  • Support the company's compliance with local regulations, working with legal and regulatory teams to ensure registration with relevant lobbying registers and understanding of regulatory environments in diagnostics and scientific research industries.
  • Participate in governance exercises to ensure the company is compliant with regulations and maintain a strong and close link with the Marketing team to ensure all Corporate Affairs work is aligned with marketing campaigns.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a science subject or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in policy or government relations, with a strong understanding of scientific policy areas, including scientific research and healthcare.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, ideally within the life sciences sector, with a background in communications or policy agencies.
  • Excellent written and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone to audience and platform.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines at once.
  • Ability to build strong relationships, collaborate with teams, and work well with cross-functional colleagues.
