Warehouse Operations Manager at Wincanton

Overview of the Role:
The Warehouse Operations Manager will oversee the entire shift, directing operations across two warehouse facilities to meet all key performance indicators (KPIs) while prioritizing safety. This position is responsible for ensuring that all warehouse activities are conducted efficiently, effectively, and in a motivating environment. Collaboration with Health & Safety, Inventory Management, Facilities, Human Resources, and Finance is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and guide managers and staff across all warehouse sectors, emphasizing safety as a core value.
- Guarantee that all orders are accurately picked, properly packed, and dispatched punctually, maintaining high standards and service levels.
- Ensure adherence to established procedures in all areas of responsibility.
- Achieve sales and profit objectives while effectively maintaining operational standards in line with company policies.
- Actively identify opportunities for enhancing business performance through regular evaluations of existing processes.
- Drive operational changes to boost profitability and performance at the site.
- Oversee labor and recruitment efforts, utilizing both agency and full-time recruitment to maintain staffing levels.
- Ensure the smooth operation of the Material Handling Equipment (MHE) fleet and address any maintenance concerns promptly.
- Manage P&L responsibilities, providing reports to senior management.
- Support, guide, and evaluate the performance of the management team.
- Maintain professional relationships with external contractors and visitors, upholding operational and customer service standards.
- Responsible for the comprehensive 24-hour operation, with a requirement to visit all shifts monthly to address performance or personnel issues.
- Provide KPI and SLA reports to the Senior Management team as needed, offering insights and recommendations for enhancements.
- Lead the management team in developing succession plans for relevant positions.
- Foster an engaging workplace, ensuring that the company’s people promise is fully integrated.
- Effectively manage absence, sickness, holidays, conduct, and performance in accordance with policies.
- Motivate the team to surpass customer contractual KPIs and site KPIs.
- Administer team-related tasks in all relevant personnel systems.
- Perform any additional management functions as required by the business.
Required Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

- Proven experience in leading a warehouse management team.
- Demonstrated experience in managing P&L.
- Flexibility to work across a 7-day schedule.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with senior management.
- A proactive and enthusiastic approach to work.
