Position Overview

Join the Front Office Risk team at E1 EDF Trading Ltd, where you will play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive risk assessments that are essential for strategic decision-making. This position involves cultivating robust relationships with trading teams while gaining a thorough understanding of the dynamics within global energy markets.

Key Responsibilities

As a Risk Analyst, your primary duties will include:

  • Engaging daily with Trading desks and Fundamental analysis teams to provide independent evaluations and challenge trading methodologies.
  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the daily factors influencing price fluctuations and their implications for the portfolios you oversee.
  • Maintaining a detailed awareness of the positional composition of the portfolios under your management.
  • Regularly analyzing the key profit and loss drivers associated with the portfolios you are responsible for.
  • When necessary, preparing in-depth reports for management on specific trading positions to assess and analyze risk versus reward.
  • Creating well-articulated commentary for presentation during weekly executive meetings.
  • Collaborating with other support functions to escalate and address market, operational, and other risk-related issues as needed.

Required Experience

  • Proven experience in risk management, valuations, or trading roles within investment banking or energy trading sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies for both linear and non-linear financial instruments, including Value at Risk (VaR), back-testing, portfolio stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Experience in direct interaction with traders.
  • In-depth knowledge of various energy commodities such as Power, Gas, Oil, LNG, LPG, and Coal.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Excel, VBA, or other programming languages is preferred, particularly in analyzing complex datasets.
  • Experience in developing risk analytics tools in Excel or other software systems.

Candidate Profile

  • Exceptional mathematical and analytical abilities, with a solid foundation in statistics.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preference for candidates holding an MSc in Finance, CQF, PRM, FRM, or ERP qualifications.
  • Familiarity with common commodity trading instruments, including physical forwards, swaps, options, and other derivatives.
  • Thorough understanding of option valuation techniques, particularly for exotic options.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing and presenting materials to senior management as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong emphasis on the accuracy of information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic small team environment and provide support for colleagues as necessary.

Work Schedule:

This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
