Senior Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine
We are looking for a dedicated full-time Senior Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine to join our esteemed team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will engage in critical care services across various departments, with opportunities for outpatient consultations and follow-up care for patients in intensive care.
The appointee will collaborate with the existing Intensive Care team and will report to the Divisional Director through the Clinical Lead for Intensive Care.
Candidates must possess full GMC registration and hold either FRCA or an equivalent qualification. Additionally, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) is required, or candidates should be within six months of obtaining it at the time of the interview. A minimum of two years' experience in cardiac or cardiothoracic intensive care at a Fellow or Consultant level is essential, along with accreditation in adult critical care medicine.
Informal discussions regarding the role are welcomed and can be arranged with the Clinical Lead for Intensive Care.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Collaborate with the current team of Intensive Care Consultants to provide high-quality critical care services across various locations as needed.
- Work closely with colleagues to uphold and enhance the standards of a severe acute cardio-respiratory failure service, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
- Lead and participate in research initiatives and contribute to the research program as appropriate.
- Engage in clinical data collection and presentation, ensuring the highest standards of clinical governance.
- Participate actively in clinical audits and governance meetings related to Intensive Care and ECMO services.
- Provide teaching and training opportunities at both local and national levels.
- Contribute to the development of the Intensive Care service on local, national, and international platforms.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Registration on the Specialist Register of the GMC or eligibility within six months at the time of the interview.
- MRCP or FRCA or an equivalent qualification.
- CCT/CCST in Intensive Care Medicine or an equivalent qualification (CESR) or CCT in Anaesthesia with advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine.
- MB BS or an equivalent qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
- FFICM/EDIC or an equivalent qualification.
- Higher degree (MSc, MD, MPhil, PhD or equivalent).
Experience Requirements
Essential Experience
- Experience in Adult Critical Care Medicine.
- Experience in Cardiac or Cardiothoracic Critical Care.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in the transport of critically ill patients with severe respiratory failure.
- Experience in the care of patients receiving extracorporeal support.
Skills and Competencies
Essential Skills
- Proficient technical and clinical skills required for Adult Critical Care Medicine.
- Comprehensive knowledge of cardiac and thoracic physiology.
- Strong teaching and mentoring abilities.
- Capability to initiate and oversee quality improvement projects and research initiatives.
