Position Overview

This role presents a remarkable chance to engage with the prestigious Barts Heart Centre, recognized as the leading cardiac facility in the UK.

The Barts Heart Centre (BHC) is the largest cardiothoracic center in the nation, consolidating nearly all specialized cardiac services for north central and northeast London and beyond. The newly constructed facility on St Bartholomew's site boasts cutting-edge amenities, including 72 critical care beds, 10 operating theatres, 10 catheterization labs, and over 250 dedicated cardiac, vascular, and thoracic beds, positioning it among Europe's foremost Cardiothoracic Centres.

Key Responsibilities

This role as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Critical Care Medicine is available for a duration of one year, with the possibility of extension upon mutual agreement. Candidates must possess financial sponsorship to cover their salary and training expenses and should have achieved at least an intermediate level (completed ST4) in Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent training.

The fellowship is designed to cultivate expertise in advanced cardiothoracic critical care medicine, enhancing patient outcomes. Fellows will gain substantial clinical exposure, leadership experience, and educational skills, while encountering a diverse array of cardiovascular conditions at the Barts Heart Centre.

Participation in the educational curriculum is encouraged, including attendance at weekly core knowledge sessions and review meetings in radiology and echocardiography, when feasible. Additionally, fellows are motivated to engage in relevant national conferences and may undertake audits and short research projects in critical care.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and Training

Essential Criteria

  • Full GMC Registration
  • FRCA/MRCEM/MRCP/FRCS or equivalent qualifications
  • Minimum ST4 in Intensive Care Medicine (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of financial sponsorship

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in cardiothoracic critical care
  • APLS/EPLS certification
  • FICE/FUSIC certification
  • ALS or equivalent certification
  • ATLS or equivalent certification

Research and Development

  • Understanding of research principles and ability to interpret research findings
  • Good Clinical Practice training

  • Publications in critical care journals or related fields
