London, Greater London, United Kingdom HCA Healthcare UK Full time

Join the leading private healthcare provider in the UK, specializing in complex medical care: HCA Healthcare UK.

  • Position: Resident Doctor – Critical Care Level 3 Units
  • Location: Central London, HCA Healthcare UK Facilities
  • Employment Type: 1 or 2 years Salaried
  • Work Schedule: Most physicians typically prefer 1 x 24-hour shift weekly or 2 x 12-hour shifts. Full-time options are also available, with rotas planned well in advance to provide flexibility for personal commitments.

We are excited to offer a remarkable career opportunity for SPR ST4+ doctors trained in Critical Care/Anaesthesia with airway management skills to become part of our Resident Doctors team.

This role provides an excellent chance to collaborate with our private patient consultants, gain insights from specialist nurses, and engage in critical care pathways under the guidance of designated consultants.

HCA Healthcare UK hospitals have received 'good' or 'outstanding' ratings from the CQC and handle a diverse array of complex cases. You will be part of a collaborative team environment, sharing specialized knowledge and expertise.

Your primary responsibilities as a Resident Doctor include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the Critical Care Ward and ITU units, providing medical care from admission through to discharge in a Consultant-Led organization.
  • Independently managing the medical care of inpatients, which includes clerking new planned and unplanned admissions, conducting daily patient ward rounds, and responding to medical emergencies.
  • Performing medical procedures as required by the lead consultant, such as vascular access (e.g., central venous catheter insertion), airway management (e.g., intubation), and managing acute pain/epidural catheters, among others.
  • Participating in the multidisciplinary team on the ward, with opportunities to engage in audits and training aimed at continuous improvement and excellence for both staff and patients.

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • MBBS medical qualification
  • Full registration with the GMC and a current license to practice
  • Desirable additional post-graduate qualifications (FRCA/FICM/MRCEM/MRCP or equivalent)
  • NHS training in Intensive Care Medicine or Anaesthesia at ST4 level or above, or equivalent
  • Competence in managing complex airways independently and the ability to train and support others
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring junior doctors

Opportunities for Career Advancement and Development:

  • Allocated study budget for courses relevant to your specialty.
  • Access to HCA's comprehensive Learning Academy for course enrollment.
  • Grants and sponsorship for research, along with opportunities to develop leadership skills through programs such as the 'Executive Master's in Medical Leadership' with Bayes Business School, MBAs, and PhDs.
  • Collaboration with mentors to produce research papers or projects.
