Position Overview

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex) is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services across Sussex and parts of Kent and Surrey. The organization is committed to raising, managing, and distributing funds to support its charitable initiatives, overseen by a Charitable Funds Committee (CFC).

As the charity embarks on an ambitious capital development journey, there is a pressing need to enhance charitable revenue through the appointment of a new Fundraising Lead. This role is pivotal in connecting the hospital charity with the Trust and the surrounding community.

The successful candidate will possess extensive fundraising expertise, coupled with the enthusiasm and energy to motivate patients, visitors, and the community to support UHSussex as their charity of choice.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy and plan for the charity.

• Organize, promote, and coordinate fundraising events and initiatives, ensuring effective processing of sponsorship funds and compliance with Health & Safety regulations.

• Foster relationships with hospital personnel to encourage participation in fundraising activities and enhance the charity's visibility within the organization.

• Design and lead targeted campaigns to raise awareness among diverse community audiences.

• Collaborate with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to represent the charity at regional and local fundraising events, while also leading the broader fundraising team to boost donations and volunteer support.

The Fundraising Lead will oversee the following team members:

• Special Projects Fundraiser – Band 6

• Community & Events Fundraiser – Band 5

• Public & Mass Fundraiser – Band 5

Detailed Responsibilities

Fundraising

• Initiate and implement the fundraising strategy and plan for the charity.

• Lead and coordinate fundraising events, ensuring effective planning, marketing, and compliance with safety standards.

• Build relationships with hospital staff to promote fundraising initiatives and enhance internal visibility.

• Create and manage campaigns to raise awareness among community audiences.

• Recruit and manage volunteers, ensuring compliance with fundraising practices and legal frameworks.

• Identify and engage senior charity ambassadors from within the Trust.

Communication

• Cultivate long-term relationships with local charitable organizations to align fundraising efforts.

• Maintain a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to engage supporters, volunteers, and donors.

• Provide regular reports on fundraising activities and performance.

• Manage messaging for local media to maximize awareness of the charity's initiatives.

• Develop and oversee social media strategies to enhance digital engagement.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate records of supporter information and donor activities.

• Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.

Management and Leadership

• Contribute to the development of overall strategies and objectives for UHSussex.

• Lead the annual fundraising budget and planning process.

• Establish best practices in donor engagement and management.

• Actively participate in team meetings to drive performance and improvement.

Research and Development

• Conduct research on fundraising best practices and community engagement.

• Stay informed about changes in fundraising legislation and guidelines.

Learning and Development

• Attend mandatory training and identify personal development needs.

• Participate in the Trust's appraisal process to align personal goals with organizational objectives.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Cert IoF (Institute of Fundraising)
  • Educated to 'A' level or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of fundraising experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated good judgment in decision-making

Desirable Criteria

  • Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated budget ownership
